“First it’s to appreciate the Bayelsa Media Award. You are giving me this award because of my peaceful disposition. First it’s coming from my own people who know me very well but most especially this award is coming after I’ve left office.

“Most cases when you re in office, a number of request for awards they can’t count but when you have the privilege like us to manage a society at that level of a governor or a president, it is when you leave office that you will know whether you are impressing the people.

“Whether you like it or not, not just Nigeria but most of our societies they make the people on top believe they are good. That sometimes reduces the performance of the person because he believes he is good.

“I must say that when you leave office and people still recognize you, that recognition is key. Yes I signed the freedom of information, it has been there but I always believe that what is good for my country must be done.

“The work this brand is doing is good. This will make our young practitioners to do better in their craft”, he said.

On her part, Mrs. Gloria Diri, who received the award for Gender Champion, lauded the efforts of the organizers and sponsors of the event in celebrating the people who deserves the recognition and for seeing her as one of such.

She gave the credit to her team of Gender Response Initiative who had worked with her and made it possible for her to be honoured.

Her words: “I want to appreciate the organizers for seeing it fit to present this award to me, I want to dedicate this award to the team I call the Gender Response Initiative Team.

“These are the group of people that made this award possible, else you wouldn’t have seen anything to identify about me because we’re celebrating people that deserve it. Thank you for seeing me as one who deserves it.

“I want to assure you, I have just started. Many more awards will come and many more works will be done”.

Team Lead of the BMA, Mr Victor Benewari who went down memory lane said it started in 2013 in a bid to improve the media industry and appreciate the efforts of Bayelsans.

“We saw that whenever awards of this kind where held, people from this part of the country never really got the recognition they deserve and so we said to ourselves, if they don’t praise you, you should praise yourself.

I’d thank my partners and team members because I couldn’t have done it on my own and also appreciate the awardees for coming to be part of this year’s edition”.

Arc. Bribena, received the Society Impact Award, while Hon. Oseke won the legislator of the year award.

In the Media category, the Best Television Station award went to the Nigerian Television Authority, Yenagoa and the Best Radio Station went to Peoples FM, among other awards.

Arc. Bribena whose Baraza company was top sponsor was absent but his head of operations, High Chief Kingsley Feboke stood in for him.
