The Office of Former President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has denied social media reports linking him and his relatives to a disputed pilot training programme.

In a statement on Thursday, Jonathan’s media adviser Ikechukwu Eze called the claims “false and malicious”. The report by one Mr Kariyau Daukaru alleged that Jonathan’s relatives failed a pilot training exam but were later sent abroad through preferential treatment.

Eze stated: “No relative of the former President applied for, participated in, or failed any examination connected to the programme. No relative was nominated, selected, sponsored, or trained under the programme, whether in the US or elsewhere.”

The statement stressed that Dr Jonathan had no involvement in the programme and did not influence it for anyone. It described attempts to drag his name into a private dispute as a “deliberate effort to sensationalise the matter”.

Jonathan’s office urged those in the dispute to use legal channels and stop making “reckless assertions”. It called on the public to disregard the allegations and demanded that those spreading the claims “immediately correct the record”.
