Jerry Rawlings: President Buhari, GoodLuck Jonathan reacts to death of former Ghanaian President

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Ghana over the passing of the country’s former President, Jerry Rawlings.

Rawlings died on Thursday at the age of 73, and Buhari affirmed that the entire African continent will sorely miss the sterling qualities of the great leader.

A statement signed by Femi Adesina, his Spokesman said that Buhari believes the passion, discipline and moral strength that the former Ghanaian leader employed to reposition his country over many years continue to reverberate across the continent and beyond.

He noted, with commendation, the unique role the former President played in strengthening political institutions in his country and Africa, stimulating the economy for sustainable growth, and vociferously championing the African cause by urging many leaders to work towards interdependency on the global stage, especially in areas of competitive advantage.

Buhari said he joins family, friends and associates of the former Ghanaian leader in mourning his departure.

He assured that the ideals which Rawlings lived and died for, particularly development in Africa, his sacrifices in various countries as an envoy for peace, will always be remembered.

The President prayed that the almighty God grants the Ghanaian leader eternal rest, and comfort all his loved ones.

MEANWHILE, Former President Goodluck Jonathan also sends condolences message to the People of Ghana and the administration.

Jonathan reaction was posted on his facebook account and was sighted by NAIJA LIVE TV.

He Wrote:

“I extend my deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana over the passing on of former President Jerry John Rawlings”

“As Ghana’s leader under different dispensations, he acquitted himself as a soldier of the masses and crusader for social justice”

“President Rawlings was a courageous statesman and great Pan-Africanist with strong views and drive for Africa’s renaissance and growth. He died at a time the continent needed his wisdom and experience to deal with challenging socio-political issues. May God Almighty grant his soul eternal rest”
