The All Progressive Congress, APC, Bayelsa state chapter, has demanded an open apology from the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mrs. Koku Ebiawou, over her allegations against stakeholders of the party.
The PDP government of the state, through the Commissioner for lnformation and Strategy, has earlier alleged that stakeholders of the APC in the state received flood palliatives meant for the state, thereby, reducing the amount of relief materials sent to the state.
A statement signed by Mr. Tamaratare Otis Zuokumor, Assistant Publicity Secretary, Bayelsa State APC, in response to the allegation, noted that the Bayelsa State government has been known for distributing at will, relief materials and palliatives send to the state by the Federal Government exclusively to their party members and supporters as well as storing them in warehouses.
The statement further explained that the Bayelsa APC is not known to be receiving palliatives from the Federal Government on behalf of the state and challenged the commissioner for information to identify the APC stakeholders she alleged to have received palliatives or retract her “misleading” information.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has strongly criticized the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mrs. Koku Ebiawou’s, unsubstantiated and frivolous statement, which falsely alleged that certain APC stakeholders received palliatives from the Federal government intended for the state.
“On the contrary, no palliative has been received from the Federal Government through the party to the state, and I can confirm to Bayelsans that the information commissioner’s statement is misleading, unfortunate, and irresponsible.
“As a party, we are challenging her to identify the APC stakeholders who received the said items or issue a public apology to the party for the misinformation.
“It is a well-established fact that the Federal Government distributes relief materials to the state government whenever necessary, and the Bayelsa State government has been known to distribute such items exclusively to their party members and supporters, sometimes storing them in warehouses for distribution during election and festive periods.
“Public office holders must learn to exercise caution and avoid unprovoked and irresponsible acts of deliberate misinformation,” the statement read.
