Governor Diri Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Criminal Activity

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, presided over the Forty-Second State Security Council Meeting at Government House, Yenagoa.

In his address, the Governor directed the immediate arrest of identified cultists in connection with the recent clash at Igbogene, Yenagoa.

The Governor instructed security agencies to take firm and decisive action against all those found culpable.

Governor Diri stated that he had directed that anyone apprehended in connection with the incident should face the full weight of the law.

He called for the mass arrest of identified individuals involved, stressing that decisive measures were necessary to curb the menace, and noted that although the government had provided numerous opportunities for youths across the state, some had chosen the path of criminal activities instead.

The Governor emphasised that his administration would not tolerate crime in the State, urged youths across Bayelsa to take advantage of sports development opportunities created by the government to build productive and meaningful lives, rather than engage in cultism and other criminal activities.

Governor Diri commended service commanders for the demolition of the notorious Yenizue-Gene, also known as Aboki Quarters, previously identified as a hotspot for drug abuse among youths.

In a related development, the Governor received in audience a delegation from the British High Commission, led by the Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Lever OBE, who are in Yenagoa as part of ongoing interventions in youth empowerment and security in the state.

Governor Diri lauded the partnership initiative and programme tagged “Brighter Future.”

The initiative of the High Commission, facilitated by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Alfred Kemepado, is focused on preventing vulnerable youths from becoming involved in serious and organised crime through early intervention measures.
