Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has arrived in Liberia with the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) members for a three-day pre-election assessment.

On Tuesday, July 11, Via Twitter, Jonathan disclosed that he was accompanied by Burkinabe prime minister and one-time president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Kadre Ouedraogo.

The Nigerian elder stateman added that upon arrival at Monrovia, he met with His Excellency President George Manneh Weah, leaders of the National Assembly, and the judiciary to kick start consultations with relevant stakeholders.

Jonathan went further to state: “During our stay, the team and I will meet with other key stakeholders, including presidential candidates, leaders of political parties, the electoral management body, security chiefs, members of the diplomatic corps and civil society groups who will brief us on the level of preparedness for the polls.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Liberians in building the confidence and consensus towards peaceful, transparent, and credible general elections in October 2023.”
