YENAGOA – A 16 years old boy, identified as Temedi Agbede Yerimene, has been killed in a surging flood at Igbogene community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and his corpse dragged into deep canal close to the entrance of the state capital.

NAIJA LIVE TV gathered that the deceased, who was in company of his age mates, went swimming in the rising water close to the State Ecumenical centre but was over powered by the surging tide of the water and flushed into the huge erosion.

Efforts by the community search party to locate him dead or alive proved futile as half of the community have been submerge in flood.

The Mother of the deceased Boy, Mama Carol, who spoke with NAIJA LIVE TV said that they are indigene of Amabulu in Ojobo community of Ekeremor Local Government of the state, confirmed that the tragic incident happened at about 11am while she was away to the market to get ingredients for lunch,” when I came back from the market, I was told he had gone swimming with friends. But I thought he was swimming in the rising water level at the compound. Until one of his friends told me he had been dragged by the flood into the canal.”

Another resident of Igbogene community, Identified as Destiny, said the community leadership had warned parents to prevail on their kids to avoid the rampaging tide of the flood to avoid mishaps.

Meanwhile, NAIJA LIVE TV check showed that more communities in the state have already been taken over by the rising tide of the flood. The Secretariat of the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government council is gradually being taken over by rising flood.

But the permanent Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) located at the Boro Town in Kaima community seems to be on safe grounds. The Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Mathew Ngobua told NAIJA LIVE TV that “At the moment, the Camp Manager and the Executive Assistant to Gov. Diri on NYSC Matters are on the permanent camp. They confirm zero incidence of flood on NYSC permanent camp.”
