Findings by this reputable online News-outfit indicated that the Bayelsa State Government had on the 5th May, 2012 revoked two road contracts (Nembe/Brass and Etegwe-Tombia road projects) due to an alleged poor performance of the contractors handling the projects.

NAIJA LIVE TV had yesterday reported that Ex-Governor of Bayelsa State and APC Governorship Candidate of the November 11th gubernatorial race during a live radio program insisted that he was the one that started the Nembe/Brass road project and 10B was already paid to the contractors but was terminated by Dickson

FACT-CHECKED by NAIJA LIVE TV show that, Hon. Markson Fefegha, the then Commissioner for Information, who announced the revocation of the contracts on 5th May, 2012, named the affected roads as the Nembe-Brassroad and the Etegwe-Tombia roads projects.

The Restoration Government under the leadership of Henry Seriake Dickson, said that the decision to terminate the road contracts was taken at the state executive council’s meeting.

Hon. Fefegha alleged that Moreno Construction Company (MCC), the contractor handling the N42 billion Nembe-Brass road project, lacked the technical capacity to complete the road.

He said that the contract for the Etegwe-Tombia road project was also terminated on the same grounds of incompetence on the part of the contractors.

“The present administration is absolutely ready to do away with briefcase-carrying contractors, who had retarded the development drive of successive administrations in Bayelsa.’’

The information commissioner noted that, at the time of the revocation, N6.8 billion was already paid to the contractor by the previous state administration of Chief Timipre Sylva to MCC, when government officials visited the site.

The contract for the Nembe-Brass road project was awarded in 2007.
