Aggrieved supporters of Hon. Suoyo Kelvin Appah, a former Executive Assistant to the Bayelsa Governor on NYSC matters, who resigned his appointment and dump his PDP membership to pick up nomination form from the APGA to contest the State House of Assembly seat come 2023, have opened up on the reasons for his actions.

According to Appah supporters, the decision to move was taken due to years of political blackmail, failed promises and lack of proper internal politics within the fold of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Comrade Joel Kelvin Joel, one of the aggrieved supporters of Hon. Suoyo Kelvin Appah, in a statement issued in Yenagoa, attributed the actions of the Governor’s former Aide to power tussle and blackmail among loyalists of the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri against the Former Speaker, Hon. Tonye Isenah in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the State.

According to him, “For those who may not have been privileged to get a full detail of what transpired, and where this whole conundrum emanated. Long before now..”Internal Political Dichotomy” has trailed Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Particularly the Governor’s Primary Constituency (1). Between kaiama ward 04, and the Kaiama/Olobiri ward 05. Ranging from the fact some group alleged ownership of the Governor than others ” Some say their loyalty lies with Rt. Hon. Tonye Isenah, While some say they’re for the Governor therefore the former speaker can’t be their leader” with comparative advantage of having a closer relationship with the Chief Executive of the state, they threw tantrums, shades and misdemeanor against those who pledge loyalty to the former speaker for personal reasons, having felt they’re not being carried along they went cutting ties from the group relating with Rt. Honorable. Isenah.”

“The women leaders equally had their groups fighting for supremacy against the other group who wish not to associate with the former speaker. Take note, This issues had lingered for more than a decade without any solid move to reconcile them. Quite unfortunate the hatred amongst these groups accelerated over the years and so it went on from cheap blackmails, false alarm, deceit and character assassination from both camps. While the leaders watched, rather than put a stop, it went on escalating. Some even went ahead to take sides all in a bid to polarise the existing trend. The struggle for supremacy continued in the LGA “In their usual statement, we shall see who owns the Government. Therefore, Rt. Hon. Isenah’s faithfuls must not have a share in what is brought down to the grassroot. Even during nominations for political offices, appointments and contract jobs.”

“Talk about Loyalty and being Faithful to the People’s democratic party system both at the state and local government levels. Dr. Appah has endured pain, unmerited contempt and betrayal. Not by his making, but for the fact he enjoys a mutual relationship with the former speaker. infact, he is assumed the engine room to Rt. Hon. Isenah’s Political family. And so they say he is not faithful to the Governor. The question here is, where does the loyalty of the former speaker lie, if not with the Governor. Is a loyalist to Rt. Hon. Isenah not a loyalist to the Governor who had always assumed leadership on everyone in the constituency. Or has Rt. Hon. Isenah suddenly become a non faithful party man?”

“Dr. Appah Suoyo served directly under the Governor as a member of the Executive, he was the Governor’s Agent during the PDP Senatorial Primaries, even fought a fake observer who went manipulating the delegates against the candidature of Senator Douye Diri, a move which sued for alertness that upturned the delegate support for the Governor we have today. Who is more loyal to the Governor than he was? could his mutual relationship with the member representing Kolokuma/Opokuma in the state house of Assembly stop him from serving the Governor Directly? Isn’t it obvious lies are being told to malign his person? let us dissect this scenarios.”

“Dr. Appah contested for Kolga Ward-05 Councillorship under the umbrella party so many years ago, same stakeholders asked him to step aside for Late. Hon. College Okoringa who was the favoured choice of Government from Olobiri Community, even when he stood a better chance. His support base reduced cause they felt he was never intentional about his will to lead the people. However, in his wisdom he was able to bring them back together working for PDP, with recorded successes in his Polling Unit and many others he was able to control with his influence.
same effort that birthed successive victories for the Governor during his elections for the House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship.”

“Again, he was promised chairmanship. Infact he was to be announced as the next council chairman of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area by the Former Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson in 2019. Again the same Rt. Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah grassroot superiority trailed his chances of clinching the seat through a series of blackmail by political jobbers who wish to gain score points before the Governor. Again, he was asked to forgo his chairmanship ambition for Hon. Chief, Dengiye Dendrix Ubarugu after making promises of giving him an opportunity to run whenever the next electioneering dispensation came by. Again, his support base was slashed down due to his decision to relax his intention to serve the people by the powers controlling the party cause it was becoming the norm since he began leading them an outrage he was able to control in the minds of the people.”

“The Question here is, why treat a man with the burning desire to serve his people with deceit if you won’t grant him the wishes of the people? Was this a ploy to ridicule his political will for reasons yet Unknown?”

“some may not know this, especially those insisting that the party is supreme and thus every party member should bow to the apex decision making authority. well, it is not out of place, because we are used to it.”

“On that fateful day when the PDP nomination and interest forms were being sold out to interested party members who wish to go into the party primaries to contest for the state house of Assembly seats. Dr. Appah Suoyo was in Lagos, going about his personal assignments. cause he was being careful so the usual trend of contesting to step down doesn’t occur in his name. Almost at about 5pm in the Evening, calls came in from the party executive in the state that he was cleared to pick up the Interest and Nomination forms to contest the state assembly election primaries, and since the sales of forms were ending at twelve (12) midnight of that fateful day, he had to drop all he was doing to obey the directive.”

“Quickly booked an emergency flight and landed Port Harcourt Airport from where he immediately took off to yenagoa at night to get the forms.”

“On getting the forms, the cheering news of his involvement in the contest sparked heralding Joy in the heart of the masses, with an outrage from other quarters who felt giving the opportunity for him to contest means giving back to Isenah. When the zoning arrangements favoured Kaiama Community where he is from. and thus, again the chief executive of the state asked him to step aside.”

“The big question here is why the constitution of the party isn’t adhered to, which says all card carrying members who may be willing to contest has equal right to go into primaries to vote and be voted for, so long they’re able to purchase the forms. However, If there was an already existing Concensus candidate, Why ask others to pick up forms from the same constituency, when a sole candidate was already agreed upon? Is this how it works in a sane society? why ridicule an innocent young man? why build bridges of discord among party faithfuls for taking instructions and being loyal to a party over the years? I thought a labourer deserved worthy wages having served the party to the admiration of everyone at the grassroot level. Worst of it all, the man waited patiently for an order to be given. meaning he wasn’t even desperate for it”

“for those alleging that going ahead to contest through a different platform is “Selfish and Power intoxicating should not force others to handle what they may not be able to deal with when it gets to their turn”

“For similar cases of what has occurred over the years, please let us go into the polls and test the waters, the wish of the people is more important to us now. Nobody is fighting the Governor, everyman has the right to walk a different path. We all make choices in life, some may be favourable and some unfavorable”
