EXCLUSIVE: I Have Spent The Previous Years Listening To What The People Of Bayelsa West Want – Ebebi

HERE IS AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE APC SENATORIAL CANDIDATE FOR BAYELSA WEST HON. PEREMOBOWEI EBEBI

Reporter: Sir Bayelsa West is known to be violent during elections and you are a candidate in a major opposition party in the state?

Ebebi: I have always advocated for peace all my public and private life. I hate violent in any form. Peace brings development, peace impacts everyone’s life and without peace there will be no meaningful development. I called on my dear people of Bayelsa West Senatorial District to be peaceful during the election and after the election. They should only protect their votes.

Reporter: Sir how will you address unemployment in the Senatorial District if given the mandate?

Ebebi: When I was the speaker and deputy governor I provide employment to so many people which I can’t remember some of them. Some will say is because of you (Ebebi) am in this place am in that office. That’s exactly what I will do as a Senator. As a Senator my doors are wide open for 24 hours to attend to the needs of my people because am in the Senate because of them.

Reporter: Sir we were told you empower so many people while you were in government?

Ebebi: Putting smiles to people’s faces is my greatest joy in life. As a Senator I will do different empowerment programmes and offer scholarships to students in different higher institutions. I have done it before and I will do it again.

Reporter: Sir most politicians after winning election they will only face their family forgetting the people will you be different?

Ebebi: I am not one of those politician that after winning election I will only belong to my family. God forbid, is it only my family that voted for me? I belongs to everybody as a public figure o! When I was speaker and deputy governor, my doors were wide open for 24 hours for the people and as a Senator the same thing. I have not change am the same Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi. Governance shouldn’t be family affair for any reason. Politicians are elected by the people to solely serve purpose and the interest of the people you are representing in any level of government. As a Senator my people interest is my interest and what they want me to do that’s exactly I will do and what they want me to say that’s what I would say because am holding their mandate not mine.

Reporter: Sir how will you rate the immediate past governor, Hon. Henry Dickson performances for the 8 years?.

Ebebi: Very very disastrous uncompleted bad projects all over the state and hunger. Bayelsans are still feeling the pains of Hon. Seriake Dickson 8 years bad government. For him (Dickson) if he do good roads and employment, APC people will also drive the road and if he do employment APC people will get job. Is APC people not Bayelsans? Dickson does not know that poverty does not have respect for party affiliation, sex or age. Even with the billions he borrowed Sagbama to Ekeremor road is very very bad. I want to use this medium to call on the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri to mobilize the contractors back to site to complete the road to Sagbama and Erekemor. Our people are suffering they should complete the road.

Dickson 8 years of underdevelopment in Bayelsa West Senatorial District is near zero that’s why his administration could not commission any meaningful project and such person wants to go to the Senate to represent the people. To do what? What you could not do for good 8 years as Executive Governor that control billions you want to do it as a Lawmaker? How is that possible? You can’t give what you don’t have. You only give what you have.

Reporter: Sir, you and Dickson who is more popular and acceptable by the people?

Ebebi: You can not compare me with Dickson for leadership qualities apart from the fact that both of us are lawyers. I am more popular and acceptable by the people than Dickson 90 percent. The way I touch and affect lives of the people when I was in government Dickson has not done half of what I did while in government. Am out of government for almost 10 years but Dickson just left Government as the Executive Governor, but am still more popular than him. Like I said you can’t give what you don’t have. I am a grassroot politician I eat and discuss with the people. They know what I can do as their Senator. I’m going to change the narrative again and to ensure the delivery of dividend of Democracy to the good people of Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

There are ecological, erosion and flood issues in the Senatorial District. I will ensure those issues are address and tackled. I will ensure that what belongs to my people gets to them. I’m going to the Senate to make a difference.

Reporter: Sir was it any written agreement or arrangement that the Bayelsa West Senatorial seat is been share among the two local government of Sagbama and Ekeremor in any election?

Ebebi: There was never any written agreement or arrangement from the best of my knowledge. If Dickson claim that there was any written agreement or arrangement then he (Dickson) destroy such agreement or arrangement. Because for his 8 years as Governor, he made someone from Sagbama Local Government Commissioner of Works and in 2019 he make sure the same person go to the Senate and keep the seat for him as his own personal property. Now the same person is the current deputy governor of Bayelsa State which is from Sagbama Local Government. If Dickson claim that there was agreement or arrangement why don’t he allow someone from Erekemor Local Government to be the deputy governor instead? I have never seen a greed politician in my entire life like Dickson.

While in governor, he hold the governor office on his head, Senate on his right hand and deputy governor on his left hand. Laugh! What will you call such person reporter? Laugh! Laugh!!

Reporter: Sir, you are confident of winning this election?

Ebebi: First power belongs to God, He gives power to whoever that pleases him. Am very sure am winning this election because the people are solidly behind me and the voice of the people is voice of God.

I also use this medium to plead with the good people of Bayelsa West to come out enmasse on October 31st and vote for APC and protect their votes for the betterment of our dear Senatorial District and for our common good.
