The Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Shiekh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is not dead, a member of the movement, Abdullahi Usman has confirmed.

NAIJA LIVE TV reports that there have been rumours flying round claiming the leader of the IMN group otherwise known as Shi’ites was dead.

But Usman in a telephone conversation with Daily Trust confirmed that Zakzaky is alive.

“His son just visited him at the correctional facility where he is being held and I can confirm to you that our leader is not dead.

” I do not know where people heard such rumours from and it will not be in the best interest of the government for our leader to die in their custody,” he added.

NAIJA LIVE TV reports that the news of Zakzaky’s death caused tension in the state’s metropolis as residents were said to have restricted their movement for fear of attack.

A Kaduna State High Court had in September thrown out a no-case submission filed El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat who had been in detention since 2015 after IMN’s members’ encounter with the military.

The IMN leader and his wife are being prosecuted by the Kaduna State Government on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of the public peace.
