The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Bayelsa 2019 governorship election, David Lyon, has rounded off his Yenagoa local government area campaign. Leading his campaign train to some parts of the state’s capital city, he told the mammoth crowd,  that he is coming with a team to serve Bayelsans. 

At Agudama Epie where elders of the community presented him a symbolic rechargeable lamp, he lamented the pitch darkness that has enveloped the state, saying he is coming to light up the state. He promised to empower the women and give appointments to them. Addressing the youths, he challenged them to sit up and stop being deceived with peanut, promising empowerment programs for them that would enhance their worth. He asked them to stop being used as cannon fodders in the hands of desperate politicians. 

On the state owned Niger Delta University, he came hard on the PDP government for the hike in the tuition fees of the institution, which he said has deprived young Bayelsans access to tertiary education. “For close to eight years that they have been in power, have they paid student bursary? He asked. He went ahead, promising to clear all the bursary arrears when he becomes governor. 

At the palace of HRM. Godwin Gurosi Igodo ,JP. KSC Ogbotomedede VII, Ebeni-Ibe Atissa Kingdom, in Obogoro community, where he went to receive royal blessings, he went down memory lane on the different communities he has lived in, in Yenagoa dating back to 1985, before finally settling down at Igbogene, Yenagoa.  “I consider myself an Epie-Atissa man, and would work towards developing Yenagoa” he assured the royal fathers. 

Speaking further, he said the spate of insecurity in the state cannot be tackled by one man, calling therefore for synergy with the traditional institution, to ensure a secured state. He said he would work hand-in-hand with the traditional institution in curbing the spate of insecurity in the state.

He linked the dearth of industries in the  state to the increase in the rate of unemployment in the state, which he said contributes to the spate of insecurity in the state. He therefore promised to end insecurity and create the enabling environment for industries to thrive so that the unemployed would be gainfully employed. He also promised to turn Epie Creek into a tourist site, when he becomes governor.
