Yenagoa – Mr. Tonye Bobo, a Niger Delta ex-freedom fighter and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has rallied support from members of the party for Chief David Lyon—one of the aspirants vying for the Bayelsa State governorship seat under the APC.

Bobo, who hails from Akassa in Brass Local Government Area of the state made the call in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday.

He said going into the November 11 governorship election, the APC has a strong battle ahead of it, hence needs an “outstanding candidate” to be the party’s flagbearer to dislodge the incumbent from Creek Haven, Bayelsa’s seat of power.

While opining that it will be suicidal of the party to field an “unsellable candidate” for the guber election, Bobo mentioned Lyon as the best amongst the aspirants that have been successfully screened by the APC ahead of its primary which is scheduled to hold on the 14th of April 2023.

He argued that Lyon who was also the standard flagbearer of the APC in the 2019 Bayelsa state governorship election is the best man to lead the party to victory and ultimately Bayelsa to economic prosperity in unity.

“It will be suicidal for us to have an unsellable governorship candidate. I mean a governor who will go to the village with the notion that it was his people that were instrumental to his emergence.

“We need a governorship candidate who is committed to unifying and developing our dear state. Someone who will carry all Bayelsans along irrespective of political affiliations.

“To me, amongst all the governorship aspirants who have been cleared by our party to contest, I see David Lyon as the best candidate to fly with the party ticket, because Bayelsans still have him at heart.

“Most Bayelsans home and in the diaspora are aware of the resources available to the state and are fed up with the current situation. They rightly feel that he should be the torchbearer to lead our people into the realms of greater economic prosperity. And he is ready for that.

“David Lyon’s participation in the governorship race is, therefore, driven by a desire to render service to the good people of Bayelsa State. It is a compelling and inspiring call to service,” Bobo said partly in the statement.

David Lyon squared off against Senator Douye Diri (now incumbent Governor) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 gubernatorial poll where he emerged winner as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Lyon was not sworn in as governor as he was dislodged by a landmark judgement by the supreme court of Nigeria which accordingly pronounced Diri the winner who came second in the poll.
