The Bayelsa State Governor, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson has urged corps members not to hesitate to choose their spouses from among Bayelsans in the course of their mandatory one-year service programme in the state.

Governor Dickson who stated this on Thursday while declaring open the 2019 Batch B Stream I NYSC orientation programme at Kaiama in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area, noted that inter-tribal marriages will boost the much needed national integration in the country.

The governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Bureau, Mr. Anthony Ikhobo assured the newly sworn-in corps members that Bayelsa is a home to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion and social status and therefore called on them to use the period of the service year to contribute their own quota to the accelerated development of the state.

He described the NYSC programme as one of the enduring schemes which promotes national unity and called on the  corps members to shun ethnic, religious and political cleavages in their service to the nation.

The Governor used the occasion to advise the corps members to shun drug abuse and other social vices which will tarnish the image of their parents and the NYSC scheme.
