There was mild drama in Yenagoa,Bayelsa State capital during this year Children day celebration with the first Lady, Dr.Racheal Dickson slumping halfway through the event and sustaining injury to her lip.

The fall, which elicited shock, was however saved when the Government house medical team quickly rescued her.

It was gathered that the Bayelsa First Lady fell while trying to share foods and gift items to the Children invited into the Government house for the children day celebration. 

The event was organized by the office of the First Lady was abruptly put off halfway while the First Lady was taken away by the medical team with a bleeding mouth cut. 

An eyewitness told our correspondent that unfotunate incident happened while the first lady was personally distributing souvenirs to over 2000 children during the celebration in Government House, Yenagoa.

The first lady’s decision to distribute the gift items was to ensure that every child present goes home with a gift item and this resulted to undue pressure on the her.

The venue went rowdy following some of the children’s misbehavior having returned back to the single line to collect the second time after they have already collected but were discovered and driven away.

The situation was intense and the children were uncontrollable even with the presence of the first lady’s aides and this made the first lady who was sitting down to stand in order to change position and monitor the distribution. 

In the process of changing her position to continue the distribution, a rope on the floor entangled her legs and the first lady fell down with her face hitting on the concrete and none of her aides were able to rescue her.

The governor’s wife was however raised up to her feet and supported to her car by some of her security aides and was alleged to have been driven to the government house clinic.

Journalists were barred by security agents from taking Pictures or Videoclips.

All efforts by our reporter to know the present conditions of the number one mother of the state proved abortive but it was later Learnt that the First Lady is in a good condition as at time of filling this report.

.it also gatheted that after the incident, the media aide to the governor’s wife made an unexpected announcement ordering the children who were remorseful to leave the government house immediately or she will order the security officers around to flog them out.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Government has said its free education policy has helped to reduce the number of out of school children in the state by over 90 percent.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson disclosed this in a statement to convey the good wishes of the government to all the children in the state on the occassion of the 2019 children’s day celebration. 

Iworiso-Markson was emphatic in saying that as a top priority, the Restoration Government will continue to invest in education which is the only way to gurantee their future.

He urged children in the state to take their education seriously, stressing that with the robust education programmes put in place by the government, there is no excuse for any Bayelsa child not to go to school.

The Information Commissioner also urged them to shun drug abuse, cultism and other social vices that is inimical to their future, insisting that it is the desire of their parents and guardians as well as the government to see them become successful in their chosen careers.

The Government spokesman thanked First Lady, Dr. Racheal Dickson for her support to children, especially girl child education, saying as a true mother she has over the years hosted children on their special day. 

While wishing them a happy children’s day, he also called on parents to always keep an eye on their children and monitor their behavioral pattern, particularly the kind of friends they keep.
