The Chairman of Brass Local Government council has condemned the Friday shooting of a Fisherman in Fish town area of Sangana community in the council area by some crew attached to a fishing trawler operating illegally along the Brass territorial waterways.
The Brass Local Government Council, in a statement issued by the Council Chairman, Hon. Bello Bina described the shooting of 30years old Ayebaeifin Gabriel as wicked, provocative and capable of breaching the existing peace in the council area.
According to Hon. Bina, though the State Government under the administration of Hon. Seriake Dickson, the existing security agencies and the Council authrotities have been notified and efforts are in top gear to ensure that such wicked breach of security and incident does not reoccur in the area.
Hon. Bello Bina, while agreeing with the concerns raised by Civil Society groups and Safe Enviromental group on the years of dangerous activities of the Trawler operators along the High sea, noted that the council had raised similar complaints to appropirate agencies of the Federal Government on the need to check illegal fishing by trawlers and attacks on the fishing population of the Brass Communities.
It would be recalled that an unidentified Fishing trawler destroyed and cart away fishing nets belonging to some fishermen along the Sangana area on Friday and on attempts to recover the net from the Trawler led to armed attack on the fisherman with one sustaing gun shot to the head.
