“My attention has been drawn to a purported suspension signed by the Chairmen of Ward 1, 2, 8, 9, and 10 of the People’s Democratic Party in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, under an unknown name called “The Nembe Constituency 1 PDP Ward Chairmen Forum”.
“To the best of my knowledge as the Chairman of our great party in Nembe LGA, there is no body or organ of our party known as Nembe Constituency 1 PDP Ward Chairmen forum, the purported suspension of our respected leaders, party officials, and stakeholders is merely an exercise in futility as our party has laid down procedures on how erring members are cautioned and subsequently suspended by the party.”
“The said suspension did not follow the laid down guidelines of the party. As enshrined in the constitution of the PDP as amended, Party leaders and stakeholders can only be suspended through congresses properly constituted by members of their Wards and such congresses can only be held after the erring members have been given the privilege of a fair hearing. Through a Disciplinary Committee, Section 57 (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) & (6) of the 1998 Constitution of the PDP (As Amended). Thereafter, ward executive members will deliberate on the issue and relay their decision before the congress, the decision of the congress will be forwarded to the local government executive of the party who will, in turn, look at the issues and forward same to the state party executive council. These are the laid down procedures of our party as enshrined in our constitution.”
“The public should therefore disregard the purported announcement stating that our respected leaders of the party have been suspended, the public should know that the persons who signed this purported suspension do not have the legal right to sign such documents to suspend major stakeholders and party exco members without reference to the leadership of the party in the LGA and state. As such, these reckless actions do not have the blessing and support of the different congresses of the Ward and LGA.”
“As chairman of the party in Nembe LGA, I am calling on all party executive members to respect the constitution of the party and work according to the rules and guidelines of our party, the constitution of our party is a grand norm from which all organs derive their powers and therefore no party official irrespective of your position has the right to suspend any member, not to talk of our respected leaders without following due process.”
“Secondly, my attention is also drawn to a purported statement by some members of the party stating that the Former Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd.) is not a member of our party.”
“Let me use this medium to tender a sincere apology to our leader and father, the immediate past deputy governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (Rtd.) for this gross disrespect that has been meted on him, the party will take necessary steps to address these persons who have done this without following laid down rules and the constitution of our party.”
“This act in itself to major leaders and stakeholders in our party is a disrespect to constituted authority, as the chairman of our party in the LGA, I am apologizing to our leaders and party exco members that were said to have been suspended.”
“Lastly, let me call on all members and teeming supporters of our party from NEMBE Constituency 1 and other constituencies to work together in unity and peace, so that we can all collectively deliver our governor in his second term bid, based on his track record and the level of achievement that the prosperity government has recorded within this period.”
“His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, is the leader of the party, and our primary duty is to ensure that we give him all the needed support in the forthcoming election in November 2023. Therefore, all party members should remain law-abiding, peaceful, and united so we can work together for the collective good and development of Bayelsa State.”
