BAYELSA: Liberation Movement condemns in strong terms the arrest of its Guber Candidate, Vijah Opuama …calls for his immediate and unconditional release

Liberation Movement (LM) as call on the Inspector General of Police to immediately Order the release of it’s member and Gubernatorial Candidate for the 2019 Governorship election in Bayelsa State, Mr. Vijah I E Opuama.

NAIJA LIVE TV reported that Vijah I E Opuama, the Libration Movement Governorship candidate of the 2019 Bayelsa election, was arrested at the premises of the ongoing election petition tribunal in Abuja yesterday.

In a statement sent to NAIJA LIVE TV and Signed by the State Chairman of the party Barr. A. O. Aniso Esq condemns in strong terms the arrest of her Candidate and Petitioner in the suit challenging the emergence of PDP’s Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy.

NAIJA LIVE TV Quoted the statement thus;
“The Liberation Movement condemns in strong terms the arrest of her Candidate and Petitioner in the suit challenging the emergence of PDP’s Senator Douye Diri and his Deputy and 2 Ors at the Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal, Mr. Vijah I. E. Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama II on yet to be disclosed criminal allegations in the Court environment while he was waiting for the delivery of the Judgment of the Court in Wuse, Abuja”

“This development is a total denigration of our democratic institutions and an infringement on the fundamental right of our candidate to contest and seek election into public office in a democratic state like Nigeria, and his quest to seek justice in the court having been dissatisfied with the Victory Declaration made against his aspirations in the election”

“While we do not intend to challenge the authority of the Nigeria Police to arrest suspects or any individual, we condemn the use of the security agencies as tools for intimidation and blackmail, as being employed by the Miracle Government and their supporters in Bayelsa State, as a way of curtailing the right to seek justice available to every citizen in our Nation”

“We are therefore calling on the Inspector General of Police to use his good office to call his men to Order, and immediately Order the release of our member and Candidate Mr. Vijah I E Opuama, as the party is willing and able to present the candidate to the security forces whenever his presence is requested by the security agencies”

“We count on the rule of law to prevail and hope that this injustice will not be allowed to fester”
