Lawyer to the 2019 Governorship Candidate of Libration Movement in Bayelsa State has expressed dissatisfaction over the continued detention of his client Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja.

Barr. Ebikebuna Augustine Aluzu, Counsel to Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama of the Libration Movement (LM) said; Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama was arrested following a petition by the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Bayelsa state, Chief Benson Agadaga. He further said that the police also know that the allegations against Vijah are farcical and bailable as a matter of course. Yet, they have refused to release him on bail despite several requests by his lawyers.

Barr. Aluzu said the Bayelsa state governorship election tribunal has ordered a fresh election to be conducted within 90 days. Vijah who is the Candidate of LM is supposed to be in the fields in preparation for the fresh election. But the police are deliberately trying to frustrate Vijah because he has suddenly emerged as the dark horse who has come to liberate the people of Bayelsa state.

His words thus;

“It is more than seven days since Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama was arrested by men of the Nogeria Police Force at the premises of the Bayelsa State Governorship Tribunal”

“Vijah, an Ijaw man who took up residency in Australia many years ago elected to return to Nigeria and not take up citizenship in Australia. His desire to transform Bayelsa state and help it actualize its potentials saw him have a shot at the office of the governor”

“His desires have never been garbed in pretentious glory. This desire has seen him led many advocacies for societal change including the release of inmates in an overcrowded prison”

“Vijah is known for his audacity and is widely accepted by the people of Bayelsa state as a man of integrity. A rare and unique attribute among the last guber contenders in Bayelsa state. Attributes that have now warmed him into the hearts of many Bayelsans who now see him as a vista of hope and catalyst for a revolutionary Bayelsa state to the once silent generation”

“The Police are keeping Vijah in detention in clear violation of his constitutional rights. They arrested him following a petition by the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Bayelsa state, one Benson Agadaga. The police know that the allegations against Vijah are farcical and bailable as a matter of course. Yet, they have refused to release him on bail despite several requests by his lawyers”

“The Bayelsa state governorship election tribunal has ordered a fresh election to be conducted within 90 days. Vijah is supposed to be in the fields in preparation for the fresh election. The police are deliberately trying to frustrate this as Vijah has suddenly emerged as the dark horse who has come to liberate the people of Bayelsa state”

“His sincerity of purpose has always been demonstrated for all to see. Even when t was in doubt, Vijah has overtime proven that money doesn’t always win elections. Those who made his motive for filing his petition a subject of national discuss and accuse him as being sponsored by some oligarchs who want to upturn the order in the state are dumbstruck as to why he is still in detention”

“How much more does he need to prove that his intentions are real?”
