Light and brightness has always been equated with positivity, motivation harbinger of good and associated with spiritual beings. Darkness, on the other hand, has always been associated with evil and the devil.

On his visit to his maternal home town of Ikebiri to notify his family of his intention to contest the forthcoming governorship election, De-Great Joshua MacIver was presented a lamp which is a shift from the common practice where aspirants are presented with a matchete (Cutlass or sword).

Light symbolizes the absence of darkness, grief and unhappiness. Almighty’s Divine Grace is spread all over the house by lighting the lamps. God’s first and foremost appearance was in the form of light.

The flame symbolizes wisdom and knowledge. The Lord is the ‘Knowledge Principle’ who is the source, and the illuminator of all knowledge. A lamp teaches you to be upright, rise upwards and dispel darkness.

Knowledge removes ignorance just as light removes darkness. Also knowledge is a lasting inner wealth by which all outer achievement can be accomplished.

De-Great Joshua MacIver also called Tukpa which means light has been illuminating lives and reshaping destinies in no small measure. It is therefore no coincidence that he was presented with a lamp to go forth and lighten every dark part of our state.

While everyone reserves the right of interest in support of a candidate in every election, it is my hope that Bayelsans will embrace this light for the future of the state.
