Bayelsa Govt raise alarm over plot to rubbish Gov. Diri’s laudable achievements

The Bayelsa State Government has raised an alarm over alleged plot by some politicians outside the state to engage in campaign of calumny and orchestrated attempt to rubbish the achievements of Governor Douye Diri in the last two years.

According to the Bayelsa Government, through its Commissioner of Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ayiba Duba alleged that those involved in the plot are already recruiting political analyst under pseudo names to make spurious claims about the programmes, projects and policies of the present and administration without providing any shred of evidence and also demonstrated a sick mind of a desperate politician who seeks to set a selfish political agenda by attempting to destroy reality and tarnish the good name of the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri

The Bayelsa Information Commissioner, Hon. Ayiba Duba , in a statement issued via electronic media and made available to NAIJA LIVE TV, stated that the government has uncovered an orchestrated plot by some political actors for coordinated media attack on government by sowing seeds of lies with expectation of harvesting some political fortunes as the 2023 elections draw near.

According to the statement, “We also learnt on good authority that some media practitioners in search of gratification have been bought into the plot. Recent development in the media space aptly lend further credence to the plot. Ayagbene-Owei is therefore a smokescreen. We have reasons to believe that Ayagbene-Owei is not working alone. Hence this communication”.

“The first misguided concern of the political jobber, Ayagbene-Owei is that Governor Douye Diri Christened his administration prosperity. Here, he demonstrated enormous lack of understanding and adequate education on what prosperity entails. He assumed wrongly that government should not have been named prosperity because ingredients that guarantee prosperity were not available when the governor assumed the mantle of leadership”.

“For the records, the governor’s decision to so name his administration was an affirmation of his commitment to creating platforms such as good schools, hospitals, roads, avenues for economic empowerment and other infrastructure that positively impact the lives of the citizenry and put the state on a sure path of prosperity. This is what the administration has done in the last two years”.

“The mischievous analyst named some of the projects that the administration has done in a failed attempt to talk the projects down. We urge him to visit the neighborhoods where the 20 newly constructed internal roads in the state capital are located to hear the views of residents there. It is likely that their commendation for the governor will wake him up from self-delusion”.

“These twenty roads, the ongoing Yenagoa/Oporoma Road, the Igbedi Road, the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, the one-of-a-kind Transport terminal at Igbogene, the various ongoing Health Infrastructure, and the silent agricultural revolution among many others are eloquent testimony of the government’s commitment to the prosperity of the people and landscape of the Bayelsa state. Only a sick mind will posit that, “It is absurd to think that the provision of basic infrastructure can promote investment and sustain prosperity” as the writer labored in vain to confuse his readers”

“ This philosopher of absurdity contradicts known reality that the prosperity of a state depends on the strength of available infrastructure. There is no further evidence to conclude that the writer is sick in the mind, entrapped in something strong or under a spell with the way he conjured figures about FAAC allocation, cost of contracts by government after first positing that the government has not done anything to advance prosperity”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri and his government are committed to due process, transparency and accountability. If the writer were not permanently in the world of ecstasy, he would be aware that each time a contract is awarded, relevant implementing Ministry informed the public about the cost of such contract. All the contracts awarded under the watch of this administration are competitive. As such, there is no justification for the unsubstantiated claims and false allegations of corruption against the government”.

“Government will not be distracted by baseless accusations and will continue to provide quality projects and services to our people. One assurance that we give to the peace-loving people of Bayelsa is that your government will continue to work for you. Let it however be said that henceforth government will not tolerate baseless accusations. While government is committed to free speech, accept fair comment and constructive criticism as guaranteed by democracy, those who made baseless and libelous allegations or offer their platforms for profane publications about the government and government officials may have to substantiate such in the court of law”.
