The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded its party primaries for the August 10 Local Government elections in the state with the immediate past Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Dr. Perekeme Bertola and seven others emerging as flag bearer for the party.

Others include the incumbent acting Caretaker Chairman of Ogbia Local Government, Ebinyo Turner, the former caretaker Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government, Kia Nigeria, the Caretaker Chairman of Brass Local Government, Hon. Victor Isiah.

Also nominated as flag bearer of the PDP are Uroupaye Nimiziwa for Yenagoa local Government and Embeleakpo Alale for Sagbama and Olalibo West for Nembe Local Government area.

NAIJALIVETV.COM gathered that the primaries of the party was keenly contested for with some state Commissioners and incumbent Council Chairmen losing out, The duo of the Commissioner for Youths Development, Engr. Udengs Eradiri lost to Nimiziwa in Yenagoa while the incumbent Council Chairman of Ekeremor Local Council was defeated.

Meanwhile Five Ijaw Professional groups have expressed concern over the shoddy and controversial preparations by the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) towards the conduct of the August 10th local Government election in the State, urging the State Government and electoral body to ensure a rancour-free LG elections that will earn the trust of the electorate, avoid bloodletting and genuinely bring government close to the people.

The Ijaw Professional groups, made up of the Ijaw People (Ijaw Elders Forum, Ijaw Professionals Association, Ijaw Nation Forum, Ijaw Women Connect, and Embasara Foundation, said though a virile local government system, the emphatic enshrinement of a democratic electoral process by the 1999 Constitution for local governments, and the imminence of governorship elections in the state later in the year, the controversy trailing preparations for the local government election is disturbing.

The Ijaw Professional groups, led by Gen. Paul Alaowei Toun (rtd) (Ijaw Elders Forum), Pastor Efiye Bribena (Ijaw Professionals Association), Hon. Inuiro Wills (Ijaw National Forum), Eaye Otrofanowei Nation Forum, Ben Okoro (Ijaw Women Connect) and Denzil Amagbe Kentebe (Embassara Foundation),said they viewed, with serious concern, the numerous disturbing signals arising in relation to the forthcoming local government elections in Bayelsa State earlier scheduled for July 2019 but now slated for 10th August 2019.

According to the group, “we find it urgent to call on all relevant government authorities, especially the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) and the Bayelsa State Government, to take every step and precaution necessary for the conduct of rancour-free LG elections that will earn the trust of the electorate, avoid bloodletting and genuinely bring government close to the people”.
