Bayelsa Assembly Life Pension Bill: “IJAW NATION” Deserve Unreserved Apology – FIYE

Foundation For Ijaw Youth Empowerment, FIYE, hereby vehemently call on the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, (BSHA), to without further ado, apologize to Ijawnation, most especially the founding Fathers of the state, over the invention, sponsorship and passage of a life pension Bill for themselves, demanding a monthly payment of Five hundred thousand naira, (500,000) for Speakers, Three hundred thousand naira, (300,000) for Deputy Speakers and Two hundred thousand naira, (200,000) for members respectively. This type of bill is dubious and a robbery attempt, aimed at the future Bayelsa State. Hence the Bill is outrightly unacceptable to Ijawnation.

The Bill is also a shamble and disgrace to Ijawnation because of the peculiarity of the state to all Ijaws in relation to the struggle of States creation in which some Ijaw sons contributed immensely to the birth of Bayelsa State. They dedicated their time, resources and energy, as well as risking their lives in the process.

According to history, the Ijaw National Congress, (INC), during Gen. Sani Abacha’s regime – the most terrified and ruthless regime in the history of Nigeria, demanded for Three States; Toru Ibe, Oil River and Bayelsa States, but only One State-Bayelsa was given the Ijawnation.

Nevertheless, the INC leadership was Chief Joshua Fumudoh -National Chairman, Chief F J Williams – Gen. Secretary, Comrade Joseph Evah -Spokesman, Late Pa Oweikezi, aka Big Daddy, Chairman Lagos Chapter, and Comrade Chris Ghomorai used his Newspaper to facilitate and escalate the Struggle, and others. Though not of them are domicile in Bayelsa State, but they all served Ijawnation selflessly and sacrificially making great impacts, leading to the creation of Bayelsa State amongst other sustainable achievements.

Having said that, the BSHA should respect history and correct their blunder of passing a selfish and ridiculous Bill by reversing their life pension Bill with immediate effect and apologize to Ijawnation and the founding Fathers of Bayelsa state without delay.

Finally, we want to use this medium to encourage, the BSHA to formulate and pass Bills that would make life more meaningful and better for Bayelsa civil servants and Bayelsans. With that, Ijawnation and the founding Fathers of Bayelsa State would be made proud by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
