Activities for the 2019 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council begins on Monday, November 4th, 2019.

A statement by the Press Week Planning Committee jointly signed by its chairman, Ade Bakare and Secretary, Ebitimi Ayoko, indicated that the weeklong event will commence with sporting activities on Monday, 4th November.

It added that on Tuesday 5th November, there will be a Peace Walk against political violence by journalists from Peace Park Opposite Government House Yenagoa by 7 am in the morning. The Walk will terminate at NUJ Secretariat Azikoro Road.

The NUJ Football team will also trade tackles with the Nigerian Army 16  Brigades team same Tuesday in a novelty match  at the main bowl of Samson Siasia Sports Complex Ovom, Yenagoa by 4pm.   

According to the statement, Thursday 7th November will feature a public lecture titled: 2019 Bayelsa Governorship Election: Participatory Democracy, Good Governance and the Leadership Question.

The lecture will be delivered by Professor Ambily Etekpe of the Niger Delta University, NDU, Wilberforce Island Amassoma under the distinguished chairmanship of Senator Inatimi Rufus-Spiff at the Ernest Ikoli Hall, NUJ Secretariat by 9 am.

The climax of the Press Week will be  the awards night/dinner on Friday 8th November where distinguished members of the Union and deserved Nigerians will be honoured for their services to the union and fatherland at the NUJ Press Centre, Yenagoa. The Award and Dinner Night will commence by 6.30 in the evening.  

The statement added that the weeklong event will end in praises with a Thanksgiving Service at Christ Foundation Church, Osiri Road, Ekeki Yenagoa on Sunday 10th November, 2019., 

The statement enjoined practicing journalists in the state to participate actively in all activities commemorating the 2019 Press Week.
