#NaijaLiveTvA former Nigeria’s Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, backed the restructuring campaign of Governor Seriake Dickson.Atiku visited Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, to consult with Dickson and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state to support his presidential ambition. He explained that he had followed the advocacy effort of Dickson on the issue of restructuring, saying that he himself had been advocating the same issue since 2004.He said, “I have followed with keen interest your advocacy on restructuring and I want to let you know that I have been an advocate of restructuring since 2004. I want to invite you to join me to work together with me ahead of 2019 so that we can do it together. “Atiku later presented a book written by him on the need for proper restructuring to Dickson.Atiku, who was received by a large crowd of PDP supporters, urged them to stand up for the fight ahead, saying that he was ready to face persecution and confront anti-democratic forces in his quest to salvage the country. The former VP said, “I am ready to fight anti-democratic forces. If you remember, I can fight or face anyone.“I was in the vanguard of fighting the military. Though many lives were lost, we were successful. I am ready to ‘change the change’.Atiku, who arrived at the state capital in company with a former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, immediately went into a closed-door meeting with Dickson. The meeting, which lasted a few hours, however, led both Atiku and Dickson to address an enlarged team of state political appointees, PDP chairman and party chieftains.Atiku, who was full of commendation for Dickson for the reception accorded him and the infrastructural development noticed in the state, said the improved development achieved under the governor was possible due to the continued governance of the PDP.In his remarks, Dickson, who described Atiku as a veteran in politics, noted that the 2019 presidential election would be a referendum through which the Nigerian voters would decide on who governs them.Dickson called on PDP members nationwide to rise up to the challenge of taking power from the incumbent government at the centre. He said, “And all of us know the character of the party in government. I call on the party to have cohesion so that when we put our best feet forward, the party will stand stronger.“I call for cohesion and call for the rejection of dictatorship.”The former Minister for NDA, Orubebe, who also spoke, noted that among the presidential aspirants within the party, Atiku was the only one qualified to salvage the country.“I have looked through all the aspirants for who can manage it, it is only Atiku that I see.“Atiku is an enigma. What we need now in PDP is a man with capacity and vision. What they stop the region from getting under Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Atiku will provide more.”In his remarks, the state Chairman of the PDP, Cleopas Moses, told the crowd of party members that come 2019, the PDP would take over Aso Rock, saying that “the party in power wants to destroy our nation and we will not allow it.”
