The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has stated that it would continue to raid and arrest operators and patrons of night clubs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), because they are operating illegally.

Briefing newsmen on the recent raid of some night clubs in the FCT, by the administration, the coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Tpl Umar Shuaibu, reminded residents that night club activities in the FCT remained illegal, because the Abuja master plan has no provision for night clubs.

Shuaibu maintained that as today, the administration has not given any license to anybody to operate a night club in any part of the FCT, adding that any night club activity should be confined to hotels.

He continued: “Even in hotels, there are activities that are not allowed. You cannot engage in indecent exposure of nudity, even in the hotels. The law forbids that and it is punishable. It is not about the FCT. We are guided by the law as contained in the penal code. Even outside Nigeria, you cannot operate a night club without a license. Who gave them the license to operate a night club in Nigeria? In Abuja in particular, nobody has given anybody any license to operate a night club.”

The coordinator also disclosed that the Department of Outdoor Advertisement and Signages (DOAS) of administration has set a target of about N600 million, as internally generated revenue (IGR) for 2019.

He added that the department has also introduced ‘Public Notice Panels’, to be installed at the underside of bridges across the city to curb the menace of indiscriminate pasting of posters (political, religious, announcements, and business adverts) that are disfiguring public buildings and facilities.

Shuaibu explained that the panels are to be leased to private operators, who would provide the services to the general public and maintain the facilities.
