Nigerians in the Diaspora have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC to adopt former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as its consensus candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
Mr. Chuks Philip, Chairman of The Nationalists Movement in Madrid, Spain made the appeal in a statement made available to pressmen in Nigeria.
Mr. Philip said the appeal was hinged on the believe members of the body in the Diaspora have that Dr. Jonathan has the requisite credentials to lead the nation back on track.
The Chairman of the Nationalists Movement overseas maintained that Nigeria is endowed with enormous human and materials resources but bereft of the right leadership to translate these resources to wealth.
Mr. Philip said the group’s decision to pitch its tent with the former President was because under GEJ, the nation’s economy was spiking and there were indications that the country was making progress with policies to match.
He noted that the prices of goods were not the best but better than as at present largely to cost of fuel which was at a moderate price compared to now.
Other issues according to him include the sense of inclusiveness in the administration which has made GEJ a detribalized Nigerian who places the nation above his personal ambitions.
He said GEJ had demonstrated that the country’s electoral system can be improved upon by allowing it’s operators free access to free, fair and credible polls.
The group maintained that GEJ’s selflessness has endeared him to many who sees him as a bridge builder and an embodiment of unity for country at the cusp of religious intolerance and ethnic and regional divides.
Mr. Philip further noted that if the party gives him the opportunity to fly it’s flag, the stand a chance of winning the elections as he was widely accepted by Nigerians at home and abroad as his profile towers daily.
The group which aligns it’s position with an earlier call by its Nigerian counterparts and other groups for GEJ to given a smooth landing for him emerge the APC candidate in 2023 maintained that President Buhari has what it takes to offer Nigerians their desire of seeing the man they describe as the Pacifier to continue from where he PMB would stop come next year.
The group reaffirmed that it would continue to galvanize Nigerians across the globe and interface with their kith and kins at home to actualize GEJ return to Aso Rock
