There are signs of uneasy calm in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital Yesterday  following the decision of the leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to shun the meeting summoned with political parties by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mukan over the coming 2019 elections.

The meeting, which was attended by leaders of political parties in the state under the auspices of Inter- Party Advisory Council, IPAC, witnessed the conspicuous absence of the APC and PDP.

NAIJALIVETV.COM gathered that their absence is connected to the controversy triggered by the claims and counter claims over alleged incessant posting of police commissioner in the state.

in the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan assured all political parties and people of the state that the police was working towards providing an atmosphere to ensure free and fair elections come 2019.

Makun, who gave the assurance on Monday in his office while meeting with leaders of political parties in the state under the auspices of Inter- Party Advisory Council, IPAC, said electoral rules are clear and that the guidelines are there to guide them.

The CP, said the Command is collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, and other sister security agencies to ensure a free and fair elections.

According to the CP, “there is need for us to come together for the success of the 2019 elections. Ours is to ensure a plain level playing ground for all political parties and their contestants, and for the electorate to exercise their franchise.

“Always inform us when you are going for your campaigns, as the police will ensure to provide you with adequate security.”

CP Makun also warned against use of firearms and thuggery during the election and appealed to parents to caution their children, as the police will enforce the full weight of the law on those that will be found wanting because of electoral violence.

In his remarks, the chairman of ,IPAC, Pastor Ineye Zidogha, urged all political parties to avoid hate speech and not to see election as do or die affair, and advised the electorate to vote for their conscience and those they believe will represent them and bring about the expected dividence of democracy for the people.
