Women, Voters Protest in Nembe as Sylva, Kodjo Hijack Election Materials

Hundreds of Women have besieged the office of the Indepedent National Electoral Commission to protest the hijack of materials meant for Opu Nembe and Oluasiri òf Nembe Local Government Area area by thugs led by Chief Timipre Sylva and an Oil Surveillance Contractors, Kodjo.

The women who demanded the release of the electoral materials are from seven wards of Bassambiri and Oluasiri, Nembe Local Government Area.

The protesting women and voters insisted that the electoral materials for Nembe Constituency 2 and 3 comprising Opunembe and Oluasiri were hijacked and taken to Darius Hotel in Bassambiri to perpetrate electoral fraud.

The Nembe Local Government Chairman, Mr. Sunny Erewari, said in a statement on Saturday that thugs being led by Sylva and Kodjo hijacked the materials and deprived the people their right to vote.

He said that some security agencies colluded with APC thugs to chase away all PDP members from Bassambiri.

He said that the women were protesting because they could not vote in spite of the fact that they all had their permanent voters cards.

The Local Government Agent for the PDP, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite, said that elections did not hold in Nembe Bassambiri and called for the cancellation of the exercise there.

He said further that while the security agents were doing their best to prevent total break down of law and order, a certain Lt. Salishu, accompanied the APC thugs to perpetrate the Mayhem in Nembe.

He said that the Personal Assistant to the Kodjo was seated with Lt. Salishu, in the pick up that was used to pick the materials.

He called on the leadership of the security agencies to investigate the activities of the lieutenant.

Obuebite who also called on INEC to cancel the election, said that the brazen derivation òf the People’s right to vote would be resisted.

He said that the people of Bayelsa should not be killed due to the political ambition of anybody.
