Following the withdrawal of soldiers from checkpoints and inter-boundaries within Ondo State, a Yoruba group has warned against acts capable of sabotaging the South Western Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps.
The group, Southwest Yoruba Integrity Group stated that with the regional security outfit effectively tackling security challenges in the zone, it is only the enemy of Yoruba people that would be working against its operations.
The soldiers from the 32 Artillery Brigade in Akure had abandoned checkpoints in the state over alleged operations of Amotekun across the state.
According to the National Coordinator of the organization, Ayodeji Fashina and the National Secretary, Kazeem Olorunfemi, with the gallant efforts of the corps in Southwest, particularly in Ondo State in collaborating with other conventional security agencies to reduce kidnappings, herders/farmers clashes and other crimes to the nearest minimum, the outfit deserved the support of all.
The group in a statement made available to newsmen in Akure, the Ondo state capital at the weekend urged President Muhammadu Buhari and military authorities to caution some security men who are using their ethnic biases to unduly fight Amotekun Corps.
While stating that the sabotage must stop or the affected security agency would face mass protest from the youths and women in the Southwest zone, the group emphasised that it called on the presidency to intervene on the issue in order to avoid of ethnic profiling in the nation’s security apparatus.
The group also appealed to politicians not to politicize the situation, stressing that the governor, who is the Chief Security Officer of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, did well with creation of the outfit and can effectively handle the situation.
