The United Patriots of Nigeria ( UPN) a coalition body of opposition parties, human right groups and civil society organisations in Nigeria, strongly condemned the siege on the residences of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively by members of the Nigeria Police.

As the voice of Nigerians, we consider the siege as flagrant abuse of institution of the Nigeria State and a great assault on the legislative arm of government and by extension, Nigeria’s democracy.

We wish to remind Nigerians that abuse of democratic institutions and process has been the trademark of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration since coming to power in May 2015.

It is on record that this administration has a disgraceful reputation of abusing court orders, especially those they consider as threat to their political survival.

We therefore state that enough of this executive rascality. We call on the National Assembly to take action and save our democracy from collapse.

We declare our unalloyed solidarity with the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and all members of the legislative arm in the the struggle to save our country from enemies of the State.

Conclusively, we felicitate with members of the Peoples Democratic Party and opposition Senators on their new status as majority in the Senate. We urge them to remain resolute in ensuring that the excesses of the All Progressive Congress led executive is curtailed.
