UYO – No fewer than two serving National Assembly lawmakers and two House of Assembly members from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Akwa Ibom decamped to the Young Progressives Party (YPP) at the weekend.
They were; Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, who represents Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District and Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong Udoh representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abuja.
Two House of Assembly members representing Ikono LGA, Hon. Asuquo Nana and Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh, Ibeno LGA still of the PDP in Akwa Ibom followed suit.
Also, former Commissioner for Science and Technology in Godswill Akpabio administration, Hon. Samuel John Effanga and the immediate past Commissioner for Works and Chief of Staff to Governor Udom Emmanuel joined in the exodus.
This is even as over 15,000 members of PDP from various Wards and Chapters of the party also defected into YPP.
NAIJA LIVE TV gathered, the gale of resignation by some principal Wards/Chapter Executives of PDP and other party members in the past few weeks has sent shivers to the PDP at the State in recent times.
Governor Emmanuel a couple of days ago, NAIJA LIVE TV gathered, was not comfortable with the spate of resignation so far, he had to summoned some key elements in the Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), the campaign structure to ask why the great movement of members to YPP.
Meanwhile, Senator Bassey Albert who has annouced his intension to contest for Governorship of the State said, he would contest the YPP Governorship primary in few days.
He said, “if it pleases God to make me a Governor, I would be Governor” adding that, he stepped down for Governor Emmanuel in 2014 so that, justice and equity would prevail in Itu/Ibiino Ibom Federal Constituency in 2023 for Governorship; an agreement that is never kept by the present PDP.
Senator Albert however promised that, with God, he would reclaim the mandate through YPP in 2023.
According to him, “if it pleases God to make me a governor, I will be Governor.
“I stepped down for Governor Udom Emmanuel by justice and equity in 2014 for Eket Senatorial District to produce Governor so that, Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency would have their turn in 2023.
“But now that agreement has been renaged by the PDP. I will fight because of my people and, will ask God to help me fight their cause.
“Injustice against Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, is injustice for all; justice for Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, is also justice for all”, urging all other ethnic groups and federal Constituencies in the State to rise against all manners of intimidation and marginalization.
He charged the youths to brace up to take their positions as leaders; not thugs adding that, YPP would defeat PDP come 2023 in every units in Akwa Ibom.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Special Guest of honour, Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Akparawa Ephraim Inyan-eyen, Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong Udoh, Hon. Asuquo Nana, former Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Samuel Effanga amongst others.
