S/east govs urge FG to fix Enugu Airport

The South East Governors Forum on Sunday yesterday met and urged the Federal Government to fix the runway and tarmac of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
This was one of the resolutions in a communiqué read after the meeting held at the Government House, Enugu, by the chairman of the forum and Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi.
Umahi said: “Our demand is that the Aviation Minister should come with experts to look at the tarmac. Some of you had also travelled and on landing you see very stiff efforts being made by pilots to land. It’s not safe for our people at all. So we frown at that and ask the minister to please come as a matter of urgency.”
The governor said the forum also requested that urgent steps be taken for the reactivation of the cargo section of the airport.
He added that the forum received an interim report from the South East Consultative Committee on Health set up to facilitate the establishment of world class health facilities in each state of the zone.
