Rt. Hon. Monday-Bubou Edwin Obolo, The Most Outstanding State Legislator of the Year

Hon. Obolo is the Majority Leader of the Bayelsa Sate House of Assembly.

Early life and education.

Rt. Monday-Bubou Edwin Obolo
was born 28th of April, 1970, in
Oporoma town, the headquarter of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area
of Bayelsa state.

In 1984,he attended UPE Model a primary school in Oporoma, where he became the senior Prefect Boy and obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1989.

He to attained his WAEC from community secondary school Oporoma in 1995,there, he served as the social and Deputy Senior prefect
Boy before graduating.

Rt Hon. Obolo gained admission in university of Port Harcourt choba, in 2004 where he gained a B.A in philosophy in 2008. Going further, in 2013, Obolo gained admission into Nnamdi Azikiwe university, where he obtained his M.A Philosophy certification in 2016.

As a man who has passion for education and to know more, he is currently running a PhD program in the prestigious Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma which he started in 2017.

respected by the electorate in his hometown, ward,constituency, local government and beyond.

to the undeserved, underprivileged and collectively contributing to the resolution of society’s emergent challenges, which in his own words is what propelled him to venture into the murky waters of politics.

to the development of Human, Education and Legislation in Nigeria.

Personal life

Rt. Obolo is married and blessed with children, 2 boys and 2 girls. His hobbies are Swimming, wrestling, football, table
tennis and travelling

Political strides, successes and achievements

His political career kicked off in 1997-1998 when he was elected Councilor
to the represent Sothern Ijaw Ward 1, under the United Nigerian Congress Party
where he first hand served his people personally to discuss any matter concerning
them, and bringing up such issues during legislative sessions. With the support of the then chairman,
a community public address system, the Oporoma Community Broadcasting
(OCBS)was built and its functional till
date.

From 2004-2006, he was elected Vice Chairman, Southern Ijaw Local government area. Where he supported the then chairman in bringing dividends of democracy to the masses.

In 2006 –2007, again he was the
Executive Chairman, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. As
Chairman, he presided over council
meetings and ensured that the
resources were
managed prudently to facilitate
the spread of development projects
got to every nooks and crannies of the LGA.

Notably amongst many, he built the first Secretariat Complex since the creation of SILGA till date, Constructed a landing jetty in
Enewari
, Procured and supplied 300Kva
generator set in Ludon, and whole lot of success, that we will seat here all day if we mention one after the other.

More recently in 2011, he was elected
Member into Bayelsa State House of Assembly to represent
Southern Ijaw Constituency 2, where he is functioning till date because of his outstanding persofmances, as he was re-elected thrice.

Where he performs duties of
meeting with constituents to
discuss any matters concerning them, Bring up issues during parliamentary
sessions
, Raising motions of public
importance, Sponsoring bills that address
issues of underdevelopment in his
constituency and Bayelsa.

Became the Speaker of Bayelsa
Sate House of Assembly
during this period
Moved nineteen (19)motions
, Sponsored six (6)private member bills.

One of those bills, titled “
Legislative Fund Management
Bill”at the Bayelsa Sate
House of Assembly has already been adopted by the national taskforce/
committee on implementation of autonomy as a model.

Education and youths employment.

Rt Hon. Obolo has financially supported over
hundred(100)of his constituent in
payment of NECO and WACE registration.

Procured over four hundred
fifty (450) JAMB forms for youths
, his bursary Scheme has supported over three hundred (300)
students. Not forgetting his Scholarship Scheme that has trained no less than fifteen (15)students at the undergraduate level, ten (10)at
post graduate both MSc/PhD and
currently four (4)at the MSc and
three (3)PhD students expected to
graduate later this year.
