Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress. He announced the move on December 9, 2025, during a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt, shortly after holding a closed door meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
Fubara described his defection as a gesture of reciprocity, noting that President Tinubu’s intervention during the 2025 political crisis helped stabilise his administration.
His switch to the ruling party comes with his full political structure and loyalists, resulting in a mass exodus from the PDP in the state.
The development follows the recent defection of 17 pro Wike lawmakers to the APC as well as earlier moves by other South South PDP governors in 2025.
With Fubara’s defection, the APC now strengthens its hold on the oil rich state ahead of the 2027 elections.
