President Buhari’s led Gov’t is finishing Strong as it surmounts Security, other challenges aggressively – By; Ofoni Williams

An environmental luminary and public analyst, Hon. Ofoni D. Williams, has observed enthusiastically that the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari is making a bold and indelible mark in finishing strong, following the unabated efforts to decimate terrorist activities and curb all other forms of vices in the country.

According to Hon. Ofoni D. Williams, apart from remarkable progress in the sphere of surmounting the security challenges as evidenced in relation to the obliteration of Boko Haram terrorists and its accompanying issues in northern Nigeria, President l Mohammed Buhari-led federal government has equally acknowledged intentionally and with increasing interest, extended and adopted same solutions to pipeline vandalism, bunkering and oil theft that have ravaged our ecosystem and created negative consequences on the economy of the country.

Interestingly, the founding father of Bayelsa State, Hon. Ofoni D. Williams, noted unequivocally that the pipe line surveillance contract awarded to High Chief Ekpemupolo, will yield serious multiplier effects positively. Hon. Ofoni D. Williams averred that the demonstration of such level of commitment on the part of the federal government, which will certainly create meaningful impact on the teeming youths of the region and engage them optimally devoid of any form of discrimination by High Chief Ekpemupolo, drawing inferences from his enviable antecedents as a beacon of our liberation efforts, deserves commendation.

To this effect, the former lawmaker contends that the engagement of Niger Delta youths serves as a deliberate policy measure to address the employment needs of the people in no less measure in the days ahead. This goes to express the stack reality that it will reduce social vices such as kidnapping, theft and other related antisocial activities associated with unemployment.

However, the environmentalist said that even though he does not subscribe to the idea of linking the prevalence of crime in society to unemployment, he opines that that strand of thought cannot be easily relegated and jettisoned completely.

Be that as it may be, according to Hon. Ofoni D. Williams, there is shine and positive ray that these known societal ills shall witness steady decline and reduction in society, majorly by the man at the driver’s seat, High chief Ekpemupolo – for his conduct is laced with transparency, inclusiveness, exemplary leadership etc.

On this note, it is important that Niger Deltans should equally justify and appreciate the well intended efforts of the federal government devoted to the Niger Delta region via the surveilance contract, even though the sum total desired by the people is not substantially met. But certainly a bold and laudable step has been taken that will improve the quality of living condition of mankind and the environment in no less measure, which is unarguably evidential.

Moreso, it is worthy to note that the manner, conduct and strategy employed to drive home the message of anti-vandalism and bunkering cuts across every spectrum of society, as it, Infact, elicits a bottom-top approach. Hence, the communities, wards, clans, constituencies, LGAs,, States, etc. should reciprocate the government’s show of commitment and benevolence by creating a conducive environment at the end of the day, so that no one can justify ragtag actions and conducts that are inimical.

Hon. Ofoni D Williams noted that it an opportunity for Niger Deltans to make a loud statement in addressing environmental issues, via a conscious effort to key in, support and ensure success of the programme and project of the federal government.

Undoubtedly, Hon. Ofoni D. Williams noted that we are directly and indirectly the beneficiaries of this lofty initiative by the federal government. Obviously the end result is to provide and sustain a liveable environment for mankind. Hon. Ofoni D. Williams noted that anything short of the foregoing expresses narrow mindedness. To this effect, the leadership in the region has no other option and cannot be optional but to be just. This will equally result to commendation for the traditional institution in the region as they are willing and same is already demonstrated.

In the same vain, the political leadership should step up her efforts cum other leadership spectrum in the region. High chief Ekpemupolo is a Nigerian brand security and a just man, which the federal government, NNPC , Chief Timipre Sylva, Minister of Petroleum for State, Federal Republic of Nigeria equally acknowledge.

By and large, it is my ardent hope and believe that, with the level of significance the federal government attaches to this surveillance contract, the incoming administration of Asuwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Kashim Shettima in 2023 will sustain the tempo as a worthy legacy project in order to ensure continuity in government.
