Top contender for the 2019 presidential seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, September 10, expressed belief that Sule Lamido, another aspirant, would step down for him. Various reports say Atiku appealed to Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa, to step down for him ahead of the PDP primaries.

According to Daily Trust, Atiku, a former vice president of Nigeria, made the appeal illustrating with a short story while addressing supporters of the party at the state secretariat in Dutse.

He reportedly said in the days of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the National Republican Convention (NRC), the former president, late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, dropped his governorship ambition of Katsina state to pave way for his elder brother, who was eyeing the presidential position under same party.

“I am older than Sule Lamido, therefore, he should step aside for his elder brother,” he appealed.
