Ex – agitator leader and former Councillor, Hon. Mere Williams has congratulated Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro on his appointment as the New Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).
The appointment of Dr Dennis Otuaro was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to replace the Interim Administrator of the PAP Maj. Gen. Barry Ndiomu who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on 15th September, 2022.
While Congratulating Dr Dennis Otuaro on his appointment as the New Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Hon. Mere Williams applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the choice of Dr Dennis Otuaro, adding that his appointment as the first coordinator of the program from Delta State is a square peg in a square hole.
The ex -agitator leader has also used the opportunity to call on the federal government to rebrand the Amnesty program under the watch of Dr Dennis Otuaro, saying the time is now to restructure the program from the comatose situation it’s facing before now.
The Ex- agitator backlashed the Immediate past Interim administrator Maj. Gen. Barry Ndiomu for his high-handed style of leadership which almost killed the programme.
Hon. Mere Williams who is also the team coordinator of Tantita Security Okwagbe community in Ughelli south Delta state also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rename the amnesty program.
He made the call in Warri, Delta state where he noted that the amnesty program should be renamed as”Niger Delta Peace Stabilization Program” and not “Niger Delta Social Program” that was proposed by the past PAP Coordinator, Maj. Gen. Barry Ndiomu.
In his words, The major problem we have today is that, there are still numbers of ex-agitators who voluntarily submitted their arms that have not been capture in the Data base, again the issues of multiple Link of BVN should be treated by giving those slots back to their original owners.
This is what Maj. Gen. Barry Ndiomu refuse to handle properly. We already have 30,000 ex-agitators that had originally been captured in the Database . There’s need to increase the numbers to incorporate those numbers of ex-agitators that voluntarily surrender their arms in the program as a matter of urgency, rehabilitate them into the society or else the agitation will still continue.
I am optimistic and very confident that Dr Dennis Otuaro will bring to bear the requisite experience and know-how to his role in revamping and organizing the amnesty programme to the realization of its founding purpose and vision.
