Osun: INEC to release governorship candidates’ list on Monday

There are indications that the Independent National Electoral Commission will on Monday release the names of the 48 candidates that are contesting the September 22 Osun State governorship election.

A source in the commission, who pleaded anonymity, told Saturday PUNCH that INEC was prepared for the election and that things were going on as planned. “Yes, the commission will release the list on Monday,” the source said.

Meanwhile, there has been rumours that the Peoples Democratic Party in the state could not submit the name of the running mate of its candidate as at the time the submission closed.

But, responding to the insinuations on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, told our correspondent on the telephone that it was untrue that the candidate of the PDP for the election was yet to have a running mate.

“It’s not correct. The candidate of our party has a running mate and we have submitted his name already. Submission ended on Thursday and we have done the needful.”

When asked to give the name of the running mate, Ologbodiyan declined, saying Nigerians would know the person anytime INEC releases the names of the candidates contesting the election
