Kebbi State Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has commended the people of the state for their cooperation and support in the national effort against the COVID 19 pandemic in the state.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, has told party members accusing him of planning to extend the committee’s tenure, that none of the committee members was a job seeker.
This is just as a member of the committee, Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, said, the party’s National Executive Committee which set up the Buni-led committee didn’t give it a timeline.
They both spoke with State House correspondents, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Buni, who is also the Yobe State governor, earlier said, Buhari approved the planned nationwide registration of members.
While responding to a question on the alleged tenure elongation plot, Buni said, “You are all aware that have three sitting governors in the committee. You should know that none of the governors is seeking a job.
“Already, we have a job. But we have to sacrifice to ensure that we reposition the party.
“We are here to reposition and reunite our party so that we have a party we can all be proud of.
“This is our mandate and we are ready to discharge our mandate. That (tenure elongation) is left for the NEC of the party to decide. It is not for me or the caretaker committee to decide.”
Buni explained that the meeting with Buhari was purely consultative and in line with the assignment given to them.
He said, “As from today, we are commencing with sensitisation. Thereafter, it will culminate into membership registration across over 119,000 polling units in the country.”
Speaking in a similar vein, Bagudu said, “You may also recall that two days before the caretaker committee was saddled with the responsibility of leading the party, the party lost a serving governor to the opposition.
“So, the chairman came at the time when the morale was weak, but the committee worked so hard including the winning of the Ondo State gubernatorial election with the reconciliation of members.
“The National Executive Committee meeting that ushered in the caretaker committee did not give a definite date.
“We are conscious that these assignments will unfold and intervening circumstances across the country has made it more difficult, but certainly, they are not people that are seeking for appointments or seeking to stay.”
However, party supporters under the aegis of Concerned APC members sounded unconvinced.
Spokesman for the group, Abdullahi Dauda, in an interview with newsmen , said, “The president’s approval for the conduct of a fresh registration of members amounts to shifting the goal post in the middle of a match.
