The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) District Church Councils Fellowship in Plateau State has cautioned the Military Taskforce responsible for the maintenance of peace in the state to be careful as they trace the whereabouts of General Idris Alkali (rtd), who has been missing for days.
The Church also said it was cautioning against any act that could compound the already fragile peace in some parts of the state.
The Fellowship through its Chairman, Rev. David Laje, said “The Church is sounding the caution against the plans by the military to go to any length at tracing or otherwise the whereabouts of its retired top military officer who has not been seen or heard of since the last couple of days.
“Any act that could bring back the memory of the military action in Zaki Baim, Benue State, some years ago should be avoided at all cost.”
He recalled that what happened during the Zaki Biam incident left many innocent lives affected and this should not be rekindled in any part of Plateau State or the country in general.
While condemning any act by individual or group suspected to have a hand in the disappearance of the retired Army General, Laje added, “We call on the military to allow the police use its expertise in investigation to fish out those that may know or have anything to do with the incident and treat same approximately without getting innocent members of the community affected.
“That same community also lost about 18 people through an attack by unknown gunmen recently, and no one is asking any question about fishing out the culprits”, he lamented.
The Fellowship appealed to the citizenry to live in peace with one another and avoid taking the law into their hands, whenever there is a misunderstanding.
It would be recalled that last Thursday, over 500 women protested in Dura Du community of Jos South Local Government area of the state when the military expanded on it’s search for Major General Mohammed I. Alkali (Rtd), who was declared missing since Monday, September 3, 2018.
Major General Alkali retired from service as the Chief of Administration, Nigerian Army Headquarters, and few weeks later was declared missing.
