THE Kogi Stage Internal Revenue Services (KGIRS) on Monday said it was not being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) over alleged diversion of N3 billion belonging to the state.
The organisation also debunked online media reports that the agency diverted the N3 billion meant to be remitted to the coffers of the state government.
The Head of Administration and Human Resources of KGRIS, Mrs Azanat Salihu, described the reports as “fake, baseless and misleading.”
She explained that the monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state had never exceeded N1bn every month, saying the report of N3b was misleading and completely false.
“Our task in this organization is just to collect and collate the revenue of the state via the banks. We operate cashless policy. The chairman of the agency accused to have issued directive for the said cash diversion is not even signatory to the accounts.
“Money paid into this accounts are channelled through E-transact before hitting the state government account. Only the state government is the signatory to the accounts.
“What accrued to this organisation is just 10 per cent commission of what we are able to collect each month. And this is used to pay the staff salaries and handled other overhead costs.
“This organisation is a noble one and the chairman is transparent to the core. The government has not declared that N3 billion is missing let alone looking for it. We wonder how and where people now get the fake story from.”
The agency also said the report was politically motivated as the chairman of the board, Alhaji Yakubu Oseni, had just indicated interest to contest for the Senate seat of Kogi Central in the next year general election.
She said the move was meant to distract and tarnish the image of the agency’s chairman
