For the second time this week, men of the Nigeria Police shot to disperse protesting members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites.
The development forced residents and traders around the popular Banex Plaza, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, to scamper for safety while commercial activities in the area were brought to a halt.
Recall that the group held a similar protest on Monday to press the demand for the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky; and his wife, Zeenah who have been in detention since 2015.
During the Monday protest, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations at the FCT, Usman Umar, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member attached to Channels Television Precious Owolabi lost their lives.
Three Shiite members were also reportedly killed while several got injured.
A station of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was also burnt during the Monday protest.
On Tuesday, however, the Shiites gathered at Wuse 2 to embark on another round of protest when policemen fired shots to disperse them. Some of them were said to have fled into Banex, where computers and tech gadgets are being sold.
The policemen reportedly chased after them, while traders and bystanders ran into shops to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
