ADVERT RATE

Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has called on the Federal Government and the management of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to revisit issues around the surveillance contract in 111 host communities of OML 30, in order to avert a crisis in the area.

Making the appeal in a statement yesterday in Warri, Spokesman of the IYC, Comrade Daniel Dasiemaka, said the alleged award of the contract to another firm was already causing tension, stressing that the Federal Government should take a second look at the issue for the sake of peace.

His words: “They might not have paid attention to the threat this poses to the peace and security of the communities and Delta State as a whole. There is a running contract approved by the operators of the assets to a contractor that has been doing an awesome job on the assets. There are reports of negative incidences and the communities are happy.

“Imagine the sort of tension that has trailed this new approval in just a few days. This is a latent crisis situation on our hands and I won’t buy the narrative that they never envisaged a war from this.”
