…urges other political parties to follow suit

Ijaw Youths worldwide under the aegis of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) have commended Governor Nyosom Wike over the emergence of the immediate past Accountant General of Rivers state, Siminaliayi Fubara as the Governorship flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election.

Siminaliayi Fubara is of Riverine Ijaw and an indigene of Opobo kingdom in Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Fubara emerged with a total of 721 votes, defeating Isaac Kamalu (86), George Kelly (37), and Felix Obuah (2), the party’s immediate past chairman.

The IYC, through its National Spokesman, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, described his emergence as fulfillment of the long desire of ijaws to have a sense of belonging, fairness and equity in the political affairs of Rivers state in the fourth republic and congratulated all those who where in the struggle for a riverine Ijaw governorship.

They called on all other political parties to take a cue from the decision of Gov. Nyosom Wike and the PDP delegates and stakeholders if they want to have any desirable impact during the coming 2023 elections in the state.

The IYC however maintained that it’s rift with Gov. Wike is not personal, but born out of the controversies surrounding the arrest and incarceration of an Ijaw son, Farah Dagogo and the subsequent outburst of Gov Wike on the Ijaw nation in the pulpit simply because of their call for the immediate release of Farah who is representing Degema/Bonny federal constituency in the National Assembly.

The IYC however, call on Gov. Wike to in the spirit of rapprochement, forget the past and immediately release Hon. Fara Dagogo from incarceration and tender and unreserved apology to the Ijaw Nation for the “Thunder Fire You” outburst on the pulpit of the almighty God as a sign of good faith.

The IYC insist that it is none partisan, but swore to protect the fundamental best interest of the Ijaw nation no matter how difficult it could be.
