“I am Ouseibai Seperegha Godsgift M. A member of the Nigeria Youth Parliament representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District and the Chairman of the South-South Caucus”
“Today is the Intentional Youth Day 2020. The General Assembly of the United Nations in 1999 declared 12th August, as the International Youth Day in the world Conference of Ministers responsible for Youths. The international Youth Day gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement so as to recognize the importance of youth participation in political, economic and social life and processes”
“The theme of the International Youth day for 2020 is “YOUTH ENGAGEMENT FOR GLOBAL ACTION”. This seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced”
“The current challenges facing the globe which include insecurity, health pandemics, climate change and a host of others reveal the eroding trust in public institutions and relevance. Thus, engaging youth in formal political mechanisms will increase the fairness of political processes thereby contributing to better and more sustainable policies that will further contribute to restore trust in public institutions. Also, the enormous challenges facing the globe requires concerted actions and the meaningful engagement of young people for them to be addressed effectively cannot be overemphasized”
“Thus, the aim of the International Youth Day for 2020 is to emphasize the need to meaningfully engage youths so as to strengthen the capacity and relevance of local, national and global institutions to achieve global action. Therefore, youths should be engaged at the local/community, national and global levels to formulate laws, polices and to implement them”
“In the light of the above, I am charging all the youths to be prepared at all times to participate in leadership by taking responsibility. I charge us as youths to shun all forms of social vices and be ready to contribute positively in addressing the local, national and global challenges that have bewildered the human race while urging the government at national, sub national levels to engage youths more meaningfully”
“However, I want to make a passionate appeal to those in authority to encourage a society where quality education and capacity building of youths thrive by consciously driving policies and programmes that promote such development. By so doing, we will be creating an environment that promotes youth growth and participation in sociopolitical and economic spaces. I also plead that only youths that are prepared for leadership and have the capacity should be engaged for our society to be a better place. It is only when this is done that we can have young people contribute meaningfully to solving our societal challenges”
“Finally, in commemoration of the International Youth Day, I have organized a community service in conjunction with my distinguished colleagues of the Bayelsa State Caucus of the Nigerian Youth Parliament and other Youth Leaders across the state to clean a public place to contribute positively to our environmental challenges”
“Therefore, on behalf of myself and other members of the Bayelsa State Caucus of the Nigerian Youth parliament, I wish the youths of Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Youths of Bayelsa State, Youths of the South-South Region, Youth of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the globe at large a happy International Youth Day”
