Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that he would soon reveal corrupt practices in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.

He stated that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government is the most corrupt of all the governments since 1999.

Atiku, who spoke in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, yesterday in continuation of his 2019 presidential pursuit, accused the Buhari’s government of incompetence and running one-sided administration.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in government between 1999 and 2015 producing three presidents – Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.

There have been allegations of corruption against PDP; the party was in power for 16 years until Buhari sacked Jonathan in 2015. Many chieftains of PDP and officials of the administration are facing trial for corrupt practices

But addressing PDP supporters at the party’s secretariat along Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway, Atiku accused the Buhari administration of only fighting corruption with other responsibilities of government neglected.

He decried high level of unemployment in the country, saying over 11 million graduates were currently unemployed.

His words: “What is happening today in our country is in contravention with all provisions in our constitution. In our federation, we are supposed to have an inclusive government, but you know that this Federal Government is not inclusive. You know that this federal government is not united; you know that this Federal Government is incompetent, you know that this Federal Government is more corrupt than any government we have come through since 1999.

“So, let nobody come and deceive you on corruption; they are more corrupt than any government that I know since 1999. We shall be revealing their level of corruption. Fighting corruption alone is not the only responsibility of government.

“Our unemployment is accelerated high and there has never been a time we had more than 11 million people, young people, young women thrown out of job. Today, we have more than 11 million unemployed people. Today, we have witnessed much insecurity in this country. Today, we are witnessing high level of inflation the APC government has brought on us in this country.”

The presidential hopeful boasted that the alliance formed by the 40 political parties in the country will throw out the APC government in 2019.

Atiku said: “I am here to introduce myself to the people of Ebonyi State to seek your support and that of our party so that we can throw out Muhammadu Buhari from Aso Rock. On Monday, 40 political parties came together as part of efforts to present one candidate for presidential election in 2019.

“The coalition is going to have one candidate for presidential election, one candidate for governor, one candidate for senator, one candidate for House of Reps, one candidate for House of Assembly, one candidate for party chairman. We need this alliance because what I have seen in the last three years is what I have not seen in the last 35 years in this country.

“Therefore, we are determined, we are united and we are ready to make sure that in the next election, whether state, national or federal, we will kick out APC in every state in this country. We have never experienced the level of poverty we are facing today. They are selling crude oil around $70 per barrel now; when we came in 1999 it was around $10 dollars per barrel.

“I want to assure you that your party, PDP, is ready to take that power, but we can only do so through your support and your unity of purpose.”

Atiku promised to tackle unemployment, which he said is all time high under APC government, if elected president next year.

He regretted that Nigerians have not been so divided in history, promising further that he would pursue the unity of the country as well as tackle the various security challenges facing the country.

He noted that the present APC government has relegated women to the background in the appointment into political office and promised to retain the 35 per cent affirmative action of previous PDP governments, if elected.

The former vice president lauded Governor Dave Umahi for his developmental stride and called on the people of the state to re-elect him in 2019.

While receiving Atiku, Umahi said South-East will negotiate 2019 presidency and that the zone will vote for a presidential candidate who will develop the zone.

“The people of Ebonyi State and the people of South-East will sit down with anybody that is asking for our votes to rule this country to negotiate. South-East will not follow wrong path again. Anybody that wants the votes of South-East will sit on the table with the leaders of South-East, we shall agree, we shall write it, we shall sign it, we shall seal it.

“As the chairman of South-East Governors’ Forum, we shall come together and all the areas of marginalisation that we have been talking about, it is a time to discuss with our PVCs. The people of South-East will be decided by the leaders of South-East and any leader that is in agreement with our terms, we will follow the person,” he said.
Umahi noted that Atiku has all it takes to be president of the country.

Atiku was led to inspect some of the projects executed by Governor Umahi.

The former vice president inspected pulverisation plant, Dr. Offia Nwali flyover, Akanu Ibiam flyover, Tunnel Bridge, Ecumenical Centre, shopping mall, new government house, International Market flyover and international market.
