There is rising tension among Ijaw Communities of Egbema kingdom, Warri North local Government Area of Delta State over the refusal of Chevron Nigeria Limited to release the documentation for the imple mentation of the CSR projects in fulfilment of its corporate social responsibility.

According to the indigenes of the Ijaw Communities, the CSR projects documentation was handed to the Director of Joint Venture, Nigeria, Monday Ovuede but have refused to release it to relevant communities for onward implementation.

The CSR projects, which has instigated protests and led to shut down of the Olero field as Dinkoru and Itsekiri communities shutdown Chevron facilities over the alleged refusal of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) to carry out any corporate social responsibility CSR projects in their communities.​

The angry indigenes of Ijaw and Itsekiri communities had on July 9th and 10th stormed the CNL facilities early hours and shutdown the operation of Chevron Nigeria Limited facilities. The angered indigenes of affected communities claimed that there are agreement reached with the oil company to pay royalty to them but had failed to honour the agreement between them,​

Confirming the development, the Chairman, Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSCON), Bayelsa State Chapter, Pastor Samson Dabbey-Graham, said the face-off between Chevron and the ijaw communities over approved jobs from the Government to communities is caused by Director of Joint Venture, Nigeria, Monday Ovuede who have refused to release it.

According to Pastor Samson Dabbey-Graham, ”Since the Director, JV,Nigeria, Monday Ovuede have refused to release the approved jobs by Government and NAPPIMS to ijaw communities, the communities have threatened to descend on the company’s oil facilities. They have handed the company 14 days ultimatum and Chevron should hold him responsible for any action taken,”
