The Coalition of Free Dariye Group has expressed disgust over the inability of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to wade into the continued incarceration of former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye and his Taraba State counterpart Jolly Nyame and 152 others that were granted presidential pardon three months ago by the National Council of State.

The spokesperson of the group, Mrs Rhoda Sanda, who spoke to reporters in Jos expressed deep concern over the continued detention of Dariye, Nyame and others despite the presidential pardon and wondered why they have not been released.

She, however, hailed President Mohammadu Buhari, the Council of State and Governor Simon Lalong for the presidential pardon, adding that their commitment to the pardon depicted their love and concern for the plight of the former governors and others.

Her words: “Our concern at the moment is the continued incarceration of Senator Dariye, Reverend Jolly Nyame and others despite the pardon granted to them by the National Council of States three months ago.

“We are disturbed that all the necessary authorities concerned to carry out their immediate release from prison are still dragging their feet over the matter despite the state of health of the former governors, in particular.”

She noted that being a presidential pardon, all those granted amnesties in this regard were not supposed to stay for more than 24 hours before they will be released. She added that being the highest Constitutional authority in the country, there should be no delay in implementing the pardon.

The convener, therefore, appealed to the governor and his counterpart in Taraba State to step into this matter and interface with relevant authorities to determine why Dariye, Nyame and 152 others  are still being held three months after the presidential pardon.

“Your prompt intervention in this regard will also dispel all manner of insinuations surrounding his continued incarceration and probably unravel why he is still being kept.

The coalition also appealed to Governor Lalong to wade into the matter by interfacing with the relevant authorities in order to secure their release.
