The Bayelsa State Government will on Wednesday launch the Safe Motherhood Scheme as part of efforts to reduce the rate of infant and maternal mortality in the state.
The launch which will hold by 10am at the Chief D.S.P Alamieyesigha Memorial Banquet Hall will have a former Minister of Special Duties and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as chairman.
A statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson said the governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa will be the Special Guest of Honour.
The statement enjoined all pregnant women who are registered in the various government hospitals and health centres to attend as their stipends will be given to them.
The statement added that the launch of the summit is a further demonstration of the commitment of the Restoration Government of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson to ensure women in the state deliver of their babies safely.
